Air Fried Cabbage
A quick side dish made with just a few simple ingredients, this Air Fried Cabbage recipe delivers deliciously seasoned, roasted cabbage with perfectly caramelized edges.
I'm always looking for ways to save money on food. So I was looking for inexpensive side dish recipes and was inspired to create a cabbage alternative to my Honey Sriracha Brussels Sprouts recipe.
Plus, spring is around the corner, and I always grow too many cabbages in my garden, so I'm always looking for more ways to eat it.
This roasted cabbage recipe pairs well with one of our favorite main dishes, Crispy Hot Honey Chicken Tenders and is the perfect St Patrick's Day side dish.

Ingredients
- Cabbage, chopped in large bite-sized pieces -- separate the pieces a bit so the cabbage cooks evenly.
- Bacon, chopped -- Brings a smoky, rich flavor to this side dish.
- Olive Oil -- Encourages browning and even cooking.
- Kosher Salt and Pepper -- Enhances flavors.
- Honey -- Helps to balance the strong cabbage flavor.
- Sriracha -- Because spicy cabbage is delicious. Leave it off if you prefer.
See recipe card for quantities.
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, toss chopped cabbage and bacon with olive oil. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Cook cabbage in Air Fryer basket at 375 for 7-8 minutes then toss. Cook for another 6-8 minutes depending on how tender and roasted you like your cabbage.
Hint: Smaller, thinner cabbage cooks faster. So keep check regularly and stir to ensure even cooking.
Variations
- Air Fryer Cabbage Steaks - slice your cabbage into thick slices, brush both sides with olive oil, and sprinkle with seasonings and bacon. Cook as directed below, flipping cabbage halfway through cooking.
- Spicy Air Fryer Cabbage - add chili pepper flakes while cooking for more heat.
- Crunchy Air Fryer Cabbage - Add in chopped pecans, walnuts, or pine nuts while roasting
- Sweet and Spicy Air Fryer Cabbage - Add dried cranberries
- Asian Air Fryer Cabbage - Add a little soy sauce and sesame oil
- Reduced Balsamic Vinegar - drizzle instead of honey
Storage
Store cooked cabbage in a tightly covered container in the fridge. Good for 2-3 days.
Top tip
If you like your cabbage a little softer, add 1 Tablespoon of water to the bottom of your Air Fryer to create a little steam.
FAQ
To remove baked-on grease from an air fryer, soak the removable parts (like the basket and tray) in hot, soapy water, then scrub with a non-abrasive sponge or soft brush; for stubborn spots, use a paste of baking soda and water to loosen the grease before scrubbing, and always rinse thoroughly before reassembling the air fryer.

I made this today. Because I doubled the recipe I went with the oven route and added 5 minutes to the cook time and it all turned out great. I'm wanting to try the air fryer version now to see if they are any different.
