TikTok Chopped Italian Sub Sandwiches

Forget the bland ends of traditional sandwiches - the disappointment of plain ol' bread is over!

Enter the TikTok Chopped Italian Sub Sandwich, a genius twist reminiscent of tuna salad or chicken salad, but bursting with Italian Sub flavor. Why didn't I think of this sooner?

By chopping up all the ingredients and crafting a sandwich spread with Italian Sub flair, this method solves the age-old problem. It's sheer brilliance, if you ask me.

Heck, I even included the chips in my chopped sandwich spread. Because who doesn't love chips on their sandwich? The beauty of this sandwich is that it ensures the perfect bite every time.

Goodbye, uninspired lunches filled with sliced meat and cheese. Hello, culinary sandwich revelation.

A few other of my fav handheld meals to consider: BLT Quesadilla, Cheese Crusted Quesadillas, Avocado Cream Cheese Toast, Strawberry Toast, and Caramelized Honey Butter Toast.

Served the chopped sandwich with a sliced tomato.

Ingredients for Chopped Italian Sub Sandwiches

Choose classic Italian Sub flavors or personalize this sandwich by selecting your favorite simple ingredients to make it uniquely yours.

ingredients needed for chopped Italian sub sandwich.
  • Hoagie Rolls or Crusty Bread of your choice - I used my homemade white bread loaf this time, but make sure your bread is substantial enough to hold the spread.
  • Deli Meats - Thinly sliced Italian meats are best in this sandwich. Ham, salami, turkey, and pastrami made it into my sandwich. You could certainly try roast beef, pepperoni, etc.
  • Cheese - Provolone cheese or Mozzarella Cheese is perfect for a good Italian sandwich. I used a Toscano cheese that I love so much.
  • Vegetables - A crisp lettuce such as Romaine, Banana Peppers, Sun Dried Tomatoes, and Red Onion. I forgot to add black olives this time and I was mad about it.
  • Italian Vinaigrette Dressing - for ease, I used bottled dressing.
  • Potato Chips - I love crunched up plain potato chips on my sandwich
  • Seasoning - Everything Bagel Season for me

Substitutions in Chopped Italian Sub Sandwich Recipe

  • Toasted Chopped Italian Sub - I love a good toasted sandwich. Hold off on adding the veggies and broil your filled sandwich open-faced until hot and slightly crispy.
  • Lettuce - instead of romaine lettuce, you can use iceberg lettuce or spinach
  • Crusty Bread - use gluten-free buns instead of white bread buns to make this gluten-free. Italian sub rolls are ideal.
  • Dressing - Make your own vinaigrette by adding olive oil and red wine vinegar to your taste. Shake in some Italian seasoning to up the flavor.
  • Seasoning - Shake on Italian seasoning, garlic powder, or spread on some pesto, if desired.

Variations

Chopped salad - Skip the Italian bread and eat the chopped filling over a bed of green leaf lettuce. You won't be disappointed in this salad.

Storing Chopped Italian Sandwiches

For the best texture and best flavor, this sandwich filling is best eaten right away. If you plan to store it in the fridge, wait to add the crushed chips and lettuce until serving. Store in an airtight container for 1-2 days.

Use slider buns for a fun party food. The chopped filling makes them easy to fill and serve.
