Elevate your breakfast routine with this easy-to-make Avocado Cream Cheese Toast. Perfect for a quick breakfast or a special occasion.

Cream Cheese Avocado Toast
Breakfast can put a person on the struggle bus. Many consider it the most important meal of the day but is often the meal we spend the least amount of time preparing.

I've been working on mastering the art of sourdough which allows me to make great toast to put fantastic toppings on. This Cream Cheese Avocado Toast was created for great bread and a busy morning.
It's not unusual to need a quick prep breakfast on our farm. Often, we grab a jar of Overnight Oats with Frozen Fruit out to the fridge or a slice of Easy Amish Chocolate Chip Zucchini Bread.
Of course, a good solid farm breakfast with Amish Breakfast Casserole and Overnight Monkey Bread with Butterscotch Pudding is fantastic when there is time to cook.
But sourdough bread slices with a smear of cream cheese, a layer of smashed avocado, a sprinkling of Bagel Seasoning, and a drizzling of our homemade version of Copycat Trader Joe's Crunchy Chili Onion make the list of favorite breakfasts here.
Ingredients for Avocado Cream Cheese Toast
A few extra simple ingredients to inspire you to go beyond classic avocado toast to make the perfect avocado toast of your dreams.
- Toasted Sourdough Bread - well toasted bread is necessary to hold up to these toppings.
- Cream Cheese - use any rich cream cheese you like to form a good sturdy seal on the bread
- Avocado - a nicely ripe avocado brings richness and healthy fats to your breakfast
- Everything Bagel Seasoning - brings a variety of flavors in one container
- Crunchy Chili Onion Oil - adds crunchy, a little spice, and some richness
- Egg, optional - Add a fried or poached egg on top for extra protein and breakfast goodness
How to Make Avocado Cream Cheese Toast

Top Tips
See the Strawberry Toast recipe for step-by-step instructions for easy recipes for making toast without a toaster - in a skillet, the oven, under the broiler, or even toast in the Air Fryer.
Avocados are good for us. They are a source of healthy fat which keeps us feeling full until lunch time comes around.
How to Tell if an Avocado is Ripe?
A perfectly ripe avocado should feel like the end of your nose when it's squeezed gently. If it's soft, it's too ripe therefore don't buy it. If it's hard, keep it on the countertop for a day or two to ripen.
Handling & Storing Avocados
Store a ripe avocado in the refrigerator if you plan to eat it in a day or two to prevent the fruit from becoming overripe or spoiled.
Substitutions
- Bread - Use any other sturdy multigrain bread
- Cream Cheese - From low fat cream cheese to vegan cream cheese. If you like it, it will be delish here.
- Avocado - Use prepared guacamole, if desired
- Seasonings - Sprinkle with dried chopped garlic, onions, and sesame seeds, if you don't have Bagel Seasoning
- Crunchy Chili Onion Oil from Trader Joe's - OR sprinkle with red pepper flakes, a few cracks of black pepper, and a drizzle of olive oil.

- sunflower seeds or other nuts

Chili Onion Crunch Recipes
Go heavy on Trader Joe's Chili Onion Crunch for the best Avocado Cream Cheese Toast. The creamy cream cheese helps to round out this chili condiment.
Vegan Avocado Cream Cheese Toast
Use a bread of your choice and substitute vegan cream cheese for a great vegan breakfast.
Avocado Toast with Honey
I loooove hot honey. So to get that same effect, add a simple drizzle of honey to your avocado cream cheese toast along with the crunchy chili onion sauce. Oooooweeee! Yum!
Serving Avocado Cream Cheese Toast
This toast is easy enough for a weekday breakfast on the run but is beautiful enough to serve for special occasions.
These little toasts are beautiful when cut into small triangles and are the simple perfect brunch recipe. Add a splash of fresh lemon juice or lime juice to your smashed avocado to prevent browning if serving a bit later.
Storing Avocado Cream Cheese Toast
Toast is generally best made to order. However, we have a local restaurant here that serves a similar it as part of a catered meal and it stays delicious, though it gets a little chewy. I still think it's delicious.
As said above, if you need the toast to have some shelf-life for serving add a splash of fresh lemon or lime juice to your smashed avocado to prevent browning.

Thanks for this recipe, it is delicious and provided new uses for TJ's Crunchy Chili Onion oil and the Everything Bagle seasoning. All too often I purchase these kinds of ingredients and they remain seldom used. I appreciate your creativeness and providing uses for my impulse buys. Any other suggestions for these seasonings?

I can totally relate to your buying habits. 🙂 I love the crunchy chili onion on all kinds of things. One thing that comes to mind right away is potstickers and gnocchi. Or pizza, scrambled eggs, tacos, egg rolls, hummus, burritos, omelets, stir fry... The bagel seasoning is also delish. I love it on bagels or toast with cream cheese, popcorn, guacamole, eggs, hummus (my fav), salad topping, homemade croutons, etc

I made the avocado toast as appetizers. They were very good but I made too many. I used the whole loaf of sour dough bread and cut each slice into six pieces. I still had half of them left at the end of my party. They are really filling and think only one or two were eaten per person. I didn’t have the chili so I used balsamic glaze. It was good but I think the chili crunch would be better. I probably won’t make appetizers again, but will make as an open face sandwich for breakfast or lunch. Toasting the whole loaf of bread didn’t go well for me, either. Will probably try it on a toasted bagel. They were pretty simple to put together and I had never used the everything bagel seasoning, before, and I really like it.

Linda, I'm so happy that you tried the recipe and made it your own! I've been eating it on bagels with a soft boiled egg all week because I've been too busy to make sourdough! Tasty idea!!
