Indulge in the perfect breakfast with our Strawberry Toast with Cream Cheese recipe. A quick and easy way to kickstart your day.

Toast with Strawberries and Cream Cheese
I have a friend who loves toast. And she thinks toast is best when made for you, by another person.
I agree, there is something special about toast made by another person, but this toast is delicious. Even when I make it for myself. And, boy, do I make it for myself.
I've been working on mastering the art of sourdough which means I have lots of good reasons to eat toast. Yay, me! Sourdough bread is the perfect base for Strawberry Toast. It's stable enough to handle the toppings with no sogginess or loss of goodies.
Toast with Strawberries and Cream Cheese is a quick easy breakfast made with simple ingredients that gets a fruit in the kids' (or your own) tummy to start the day.
I've been on a toast kick recently so, you will find a few other recipes to up your toast game. I think I could eat loaded toast for every meal of the day. Strawberry Toast with Cream Cheese for breakfast. Creamy Avocado Cream Cheese Toast for lunch or supper.
For a toast dessert, try Caramelized Honey Toast with a little ice cream and chocolate drizzle. Lawd!
Ingredients for Strawberry Toast with Cream Cheese
- Sourdough Bread, thick slices - one per person. Use another sturdy bread, if desired. Toast using a method below.
- Butter, soft or Extra Virgin Olive Oil- Use it when toasting the bread in the pan. Skip it if you toast in the oven, broiler, or Air Fryer.
- Cream Cheese, soft - Love the creaminess this brings to the toast and it keeps the toast from getting soggy.
- Fresh Strawberries, sliced - I like fresh for this purpose. Frozen could work, but the juices could make your toast soggy.
- Honey - adds the sweetness
- Nuts - Pecans are local here, but walnuts or pistachios are delish with sweet strawberries
- Cinnamon - Optional, but I like the flavor the Vietnamese cinnamon adds. Plus it looks prettier.
How to Make Toast Without a Toaster
We didn't own a toaster for most of the kids' upbringing.
So when the Baby Angel got one for Christmas she didn't know how to use it. Lots of giggles with her questions about how to know the toast is done and how to get the toast out of the toaster.
And... a lesson in NOT putting anything metal in the toaster while plugged into the wall.
Homemade sourdough bread can yield large slices of toast so I find pan toasting is my favorite. If you're doing several pieces, then the oven or broiler works well, too. For smaller amounts without heating the house, the Air Fryer works nicely.
How to Toast Bread in a Pan - Skillet Method
I think this is the best way to make toast for just one or 2 people.
- Butter both bread slices liberally.
- Place the toast in a large nonstick skillet and cook over medium-high heat. When browned to your liking, flip it over.
- Toast the second side until golden brown.
- Serve as buttered toast or put toppings on as desired.
How to Toast Bread in the Oven
- Preheat your oven to 350°F.
- Place sliced bread on the baking sheet in one layer.
- Bake the toast for 4-6 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crispy. Timing will depend on your oven.
- Flip the slices over, then return to the oven for another 4-5 minutes until the top side is golden brown.
- Remove, butter if desired and top as you wish.
How to Toast Bread in the Oven Using the Broiler
Warning: The kids can attest, I've burned a lot of toast this way. Keep a very close eye on your toast.
- Place the oven rack in the second from the top position.
- Place your chosen slices of bread on the baking sheet in one layer.
- Bake the toast for 1- ½ minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
- Flip the bread over, broil for another minute or so or until golden browned. Watching it closely.
- Remove, butter if desired, and top as you wish.
Air Fryer Toast
There are many ways to use the Air Fryer for toast. Including a simple way to use up leftover hotdog buns for delish garlic breadsticks. For that try: Hot Dog Bun Garlic Bread in Air Fryer. Or for toast to use in this recipe:
- Place sliced bread in the Air Fryer in a single layer.
- Bake your piece of bread at 400 degrees F for 2-3 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crispy. Timing will depend on your Air Fryer.
- Flip the slices over, then return to the Air Fryer for another 2-3 minutes until both sides are golden brown.
- Remove, butter if desired, and top as you wish.
How to Make Strawberry Toast
- Toast the bread using your preferred method. Spread softened cream cheese on to toast. Be sure to get to the edges.
- Add sliced strawberries on top of the cream cheese.
- Top with a drizzle of honey and sprinkle with nuts.
- Dust with cinnamon and serve.
Substitutions
I love the variety of toppings you can add to Strawberry Toast with Cream Cheese. You can mix and match to fit your preferences and needs.
- Lower Fat Cream Cheese, soft - use low fat, fat-free, can be used.
- Yogurt Toast--Use yogurt instead of cream cheese, but know it makes your bread soggy faster.
- Goat Cheese Toast - use this soft cheese in place of cream cheese, yum.
- Avocado Toast Recipe - Use smooshed or sliced perfect avocado in place of the cream cheese.
- Nut Butter Toast - Use peanut butter, almond butter, or sun butter in place of cream cheese.
- Fresh Fruit Toast - Use any fruit you like in place of the ripe strawberry. Fresh berries such as raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, or bananas all work well. Dried or frozen fruits would be good, too.
- Maple Syrup Toast - Maple syrup is delish in place of the honey.
- Nut Toast - Pecans are local here, but walnuts or pistachios are delish with strawberries
- Instead of cinnamon, dust your finished toast with cocoa powder or powdered sugar, if you like.

This toast is easy enough for a weekday breakfast on the run but is beautiful enough to serve for special occasions.
These little toasts are beautiful when cut into small triangles and are the simple perfect brunch recipe. Garnish with some fresh basil leaves and people will be impressed.
Storing Strawberry Toast
Toast is generally best made to order. However, we have a local restaurant here that serves a similar it as part of a catered meal and it stays delicious, though it gets a little chewy. I still think it's delicious.
Top Tips
The type of bread does matter. Use a dense bread such as sourdough, to ensure you don't have soggy toast.
