Creamy Pineapple Slushies

If you could blend your favorite childhood summer memories, a splash of tropical sweetness, and a warm, unexpected spice into a single glass, it would taste exactly like this. This Creamy Pineapple Slushie is my ultimate trip down memory lane.

As an early teen, I loved a trip to the mall where we would spend our yard-mowing money at Orange Julius. Except, I always got a Pineapple Julius.

Fast forward some years, and a version of this recipe was one of the first things I taught to my 8th-grade FACS classes (and easily one of the most popular!).

And then... this past spring, the Cowboy and I went on a road trip to Montana where we ate at a Brazilian steakhouse. My absolute favorite item they brought around was the cinnamon-and-sugar-glazed grilled pineapple. The second I tasted it, I knew that flavor profile was going to show up in my recipe development.

So, take a little bit of the teenage version of me, a dash of the young teacher version, and a sprinkle of who I am today, blend it all together, and you get these Creamy Pineapple Slushies. They are the absolute perfect treat for a hot summer day or after school snack.

Ready-to-drink pineapple slushy.

Ingredients

  • frozen pineapple chunks - using frozen pineapple keeps it thick and slushy without watering it down with ice cubes
  • milk - add more or less to achieve your desired thickness
  • heavy whipping cream - for that signature "Julius Throwback" creaminess
  • sugar - adjust to taste
  • pure vanilla extract
  • Ground Cinnamon - my secret Brazilian steakhouse twist!
  • Fresh Mint Leaf - Don't skip this! Blending a small leaf right into the mix adds a subtle, refreshing pop of brightness that cuts through the rich cream.

Ingredients needed to make a pineapple slushy.

Instructions

Layer the blender: Add the milk, heavy cream, vanilla extract, sugar, and ground cinnamon to your blender first. (Adding liquids first helps everything blend smoothly).

Add the frozen elements: Toss in the frozen pineapple chunks and mint leaf.

Blend until smooth: Secure the lid and blend on high speed for about 45 to 60 seconds, or until the mixture is completely smooth, thick, and creamy.

Taste and adjust: Give it a quick taste! If you want it sweeter, add a pinch more sugar. If you want more of that warm spice, add a tiny dash of extra cinnamon.

Serve immediately: Pour into chilled glasses, pop in a straw, and enjoy a taste of summer.

Hint: You can use a fresh pineapple, if you prefer. Just cut it up and freeze on a sheet pan before using.

Single-Serving Summer Bliss

This recipe is scaled perfectly to make one, single-serving glass, making it the ultimate solo afternoon treat. Craving a backyard party batch? Simply double or triple the ingredients in the recipe card below - it scales up beautifully for a crowd!

Substitutions & Variations

Make it Dairy-Free: You can easily swap the milk and heavy cream for full-fat canned coconut milk. Pineapple and coconut are a match made in heaven, and it keeps that rich, creamy texture intact.

The "Grown-Up" Version: Hosting a summer patio night? Add a splash of white or spiced rum to turn this childhood throwback into a delicious adult cocktail.

Garnish in Style: Serve with a fresh pineapple wedge on the rim of the glass and a tiny dusting of cinnamon-sugar on top!

Top Tip

For the ultimate Brazilian Steakhouse flavor: Before throwing your frozen pineapple into the blender, toss the chunks in a light mixture of brown sugar and cinnamon, then spread them on a baking sheet and pop them in the freezer for an hour. This extra step replicates that deep, caramelized "grilled" flavor from the steakhouse and takes the slushie to a whole new level!

FAQ

Can I use fresh pineapple instead of frozen?

Absolutely you can! However, using fresh pineapple will make the drink more like a juice than a thick slushie. To get that classic "Julius" texture without watering it down with extra ice, just cut up your fresh pineapple and pop the chunks into the freezer for about two hours before blending.

How do I make slushies ahead of time for a party?

Slushies are definitely best served straight from the blender, but you can prep ahead! Blend the recipe completely, pour it into a freezer-safe container or a gallon freezer bag, and freeze it. About 15 to 20 minutes before serving, let it sit on the counter to thaw slightly, then give it a quick pulse in the blender to bring back that perfect slushy consistency.

What can I use instead of heavy cream?

If heavy cream feels a little too rich, whole milk or half-and-half work wonderfully. For a dairy-free option, full-fat canned coconut milk gives it an amazing, creamy tropical vibe (think Piña Colada slushie!), or you can use vanilla almond milk for a lighter treat.
