Simple Hot Dog Bun Garlic Bread in Air Fryer takes leftover buns and elevates them to buttery, garlic-flavored, addictive breadsticks.
Hot Dog Bun Garlic Breadsticks
I don't know about you, but I always seem to have a few leftover hot dog buns. Is there some sort of misalignment between the number of hot dogs in a package to the number of buns in a package?
Nowadays I hope for leftover hot dog buns (or hamburger buns) so I can make this easy recipe for Hot Dog Bun Garlic Bread in Air Fryer.
Ingredients for this Easy Homemade Garlic Bread
- Leftover buns--I like hot dog buns because they are the same shape as breadsticks, but hamburger buns and sliced bread work just fine, too.
- Butter--salted or unsalted works, but make sure it is room temperature. Melted butter soaks in the bread too much.
- Garlic Salt--I like garlic salt, but if you prefer no salt, use garlic powder.
How to Make Garlic Bread with Hot Dog Buns
Now there really is nothing difficult about this recipe. The hardest part used to be using the oven's broiler. Because I burned the toast under the broiler about 98% of the time.
- In a small bowl, stir together the soft butter with garlic salt, and parsley.
- Spread the garlic butter on the inside of the hot dog bun. Be generous.
- Place buns in the Air Fryer, buttered side up in a single layer. 4 buns took 2 batches in my Air Fryer.
- Cook for 3-5 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Cooking time will vary.
Burned toast has been a thorn in my side. NO MORE! Enter the Air Fryer.
Food Saving Tips- What to do with leftover hotdog buns?
Now we know that a package of buns doesn't cost much money, but I like to be conscious of my food waste and the impact my purchases make on my budget and the earth.
So recipes like this make my heart happy. Grandma D's heart would be happy, too, if she were alive. This was her smarty recipe and is a perfect way to have a perfect side dish for soup, inexpensively.
Yeah. We all know you can make garlic bread with a fancy, schmancy, French bread loaf... But what's the fun in that?
Give me some extra hot dog buns, some rich butter, some garlic salt, an Air Fryer, and get out of my way! I'll show you how to whip up a crusty, garlicky breadstick in less than 7 minutes.
Substitutions and Variations
Oven-Baked Hot Dog Bun Breadsticks--Place the buttered buns on a baking sheet and bake the breadsticks under the oven's broiler until golden brown. Of course, I've already told you my luck with this approach...these only take 1-2 minutes. Watch very carefully.
Fresh Garlic Cloves in Breadsticks--mince finely one garlic clove and add a little salt instead of using garlic salt.
Use up any leftover bread -- Use hamburger buns, white bread, or Texas Toast instead of the hot dog buns.
Seasoning Garlic Bread -- Season as you wish! Garlic powder and kosher salt can be used instead of garlic salt. Add a little black pepper or red pepper flakes if you like a little spice.
Italian Breadsticks--Add a little Italian seasoning to the garlic butter mixture, if desired.
Cheesy Garlic Bread Recipe--Top garlic buttered buns with grated cheddar cheese, romano cheese, or parmesan cheese.
STORAGE
Store leftover garlic bread in an airtight container or wrapped in plastic wrap or aluminum foil at room temperature. Reheat in the Air Fryer. Bread will keep for several weeks.
I can cook about anything. Except toast. I will burn toast under the oven's broiler about 98% of the time. My kids all laugh at me every time I burn toast. But, the Air Fryer has changed my life! No more burnt toast for me.
