Use the Air Fryer, grill, smoker, or oven for this Easy Pig Wings Recipe with a honey bourbon glaze that will fly off the appetizer table.
Pig Wings
I had a friend who was singing the praises of Pig Wings a year or more ago. And I was like, Meh.
Ok, ok...I apologize Kim. You were on to something here. You are right, Pig Wings are delicious, easy, and fun to eat and serve. This unique meat has more meat than a chicken wing. They are meaty like a leg but with a big, smoky pork flavor.
My local butcher shop carries these little drumstick-shaped pork pops. If yours doesn't, ask them to bring you a batch in. You won't be sad about it.
When I get mine home, I defrost them and whip up a bourbon honey glaze, then cook my pig wings in the Air Fryer.
Ingredients
- Pig Wings -- 2 to 3 wings per person. I cooked 1 ½ pounds for 4 of us.
- BBQ Sauce -- Use any brand you like.
- Apple Cider Vinegar -- Brings acidity and balances the sweetness.
- Garlic, minced -- Everything is better with garlic.
- Bourbon -- I like the smokey, sweet vanilla notes this spirit brings to the sauce.
- Honey -- Offsets the smokey meat flavors.
See the recipe card for quantities.
How to Make Pig Wings
- In a small mixing bowl or measuring cup combine BBQ sauce, honey, garlic, and apple cider vinegar. Mix well.
- Dip pig wings to fully cover with sauce and place in Air Fryer, on a foil-lined baking sheet, or directly on the grill.
- Cook until sauce is sticky and lightly browned and pig wings are heated through.
- Serve immediately.
Hint: The bourbon can cause flare-ups so don't leave pig wings cooking unattended.
Substitutions & Variations
For a delicious variety try Spicy Pig Wings - add chili pepper flakes to the sauce for a spicy version of pig wings.
Want an alcohol-free sauce? Substitute apple juice for the bourbon.
Storage
Store any leftover Pig Wings in a covered air-tight container in the fridge for 3 to 5 days.
Top tip
Pig Wings are the perfect party food. Grill them as an appetizer, or cook them in the Air Fryer or oven, and keep them warm in a crock pot set on warm or low.
FAQ
Pig wings come from the shank or bottom of the ham and consist of tender, dark meat which has more flavor, and a small bone that serves as a handle for this pork pop.
Yes, pig wings are fully cooked. Your job is to sauce them and heat them through.
Since pig wings are already fully cooked they are easy to make on the grill, smoker, Air Fryer, or oven. However you choose to cook pig wings, you just want to get the glaze good and sticky and heat the wings through.
