Instructions
In a large bowl, mix the box cake mix following directions on the box.
Bake the cake batter in (2) 8-inch cake pans. Make sure to use baking spray so your cakes release easily from the pans.
Allow cakes to cool in the pans for 15 minutes before removing to cooling racks to cool completely. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate to cool.
When cakes are fully cooled, stack the cakes on top of one another to cut the heart pieces out.
To cut the rounded parts for the heart--Using a long serrated knife make slight marks in the top cake dividing it into quarters.
Cut the cake using sawing motions with a serrated knife from the edge of the horizontal line to the edge of the vertical line.
Line the cut piece up on the other side and make the heart top to match.
Place the bottom layer on a cake plate or cake board. Top with a thin layer of frosting and chopped strawberries, if desired.
Place the second layer on top.
Position the top of the heart in place and use frosting to "glue" them in place on the top edges to for the shape of a heart.
Coat the entire cake with a thin layer of frosting, being careful not to go back and forth, especially on the cut edges.
Frost the entire cake covering the cake.
Dip strawberries in melted chocolate and allow to dry.
Slice strawberries of the same size and place slices along the base of the frosted cake.
Place dried chocolate dipped strawberries along the top of the cake and along the base, as desired.
Serve immediately.
